What Is Hip Pain?

Hip pain is a common and often misunderstood issue that we treat regularly at Big Cat Performance & Physical Therapy. The hip is a complex joint with many potential sources of discomfort. From labral tears and joint degeneration to muscular tightness and postural imbalances caused by modern lifestyles, hip pain can arise from a wide variety of root causes.

In many cases, people don’t even realize that their hip is the source of their discomfort. What starts as stiffness or tension can develop into deep aching, pinching sensations, or even pain that radiates into the back, groin, or legs. Whether it’s the result of years spent sitting, an old athletic injury, or a structural issue, hip pain can interfere with performance, mobility, and quality of life.

What Are The Symptoms Of Hip Pain?

Hip pain doesn’t always stay in the hip. Because of the joint’s central role in movement and stability, problems here often impact the lower back, knees, and even ankles. Common symptoms include:

  • A deep ache in the front or side of the hip
  • Pinching or sharp pain during squats, lunges, or sitting
  • Stiffness when getting out of a chair or bed
  • Clicking, catching, or instability in the joint
  • Radiating discomfort into the thigh or low back

Left untreated, hip pain can limit athletic performance, make daily movements uncomfortable, and eventually lead to compensation patterns that put stress on other areas of the body. That’s why addressing it early – and correctly – is so important.

What Is Our Approach To Fixing/Treating Hip Pain?

At Big Cat, we don’t just treat the symptoms – we uncover the root cause. Our objective assessments help us determine exactly what’s driving your pain, whether it’s a labral tear, joint dysfunction, tight hip flexors, glute weakness, or even poor movement habits from prolonged sitting.

Once we’ve identified the true source of the issue, we create a personalized plan to get you out of pain and back to doing what you love. But we don’t stop there. Our goal is to take you beyond recovery – to help you rebuild strength, restore function, and prevent the problem from coming back.

We work in a performance-focused environment that bridges the gap between rehab and real-world movement. Whether you’re an athlete looking to return to full competition or simply want to walk, squat, and move without discomfort, our one-on-one sessions with a Doctor of Physical Therapy ensure you’re receiving expert care every step of the way.

The result? Stronger, more resilient hips that support you in sport, day-to-day life, and everything in between.
